The market for ground-based aircraft air conditioning is continually growing. The company Combitherm GmbH reacted to this situation already years ago by developing its own air conditioning units, the so-called TRACUs (Truck Air Conditioning Units). These mobile air conditioning units have the advantage that they operate at considerably lower noise levels and that they have a higher energy efficiency than the up to now often used auxiliary power units (APUs). Another benefit: Unlike the APUs, the TRACUs do not operate with kerosene. The ground-based units by Combitherm have a refrigerating capacity that covers a large temperature range from -20 °C to 55 °C. Combitherm attaches great importance to product quality, flexibility and adaptability of its TRACUs: Besides the effective local requirements, the ground-based units also have to comply with the climatic conditions on-site. Whereas in northern climates a heating function may be required, the unit will be mainly used for cooling in southern regions. For this reason, the components that are installed in the TRACUs have to offer the adaptability to comply with the requirements of the different possible applications. Combitherm selected Güntner heat exchangers for equiping its TRACUs, because Güntner could satisfy Combitherm's high expectations with its large product range of condensers, drycoolers, evaporators and air coolers and offer individual solutions for the specific application. For optimal corrosion resistance, the implemented heat exchangers are epoxy coated, so they can also be used in locations with aggressive ambiant conditions, such as desert sand or maritime air. In addition, the copper tubes and fins of the units are reinforced for increasing material resistance against vibrations and high air pressure. With this diversity it is possible to provide the appropriate air conditioning system for virtually any aircraft at any airport in the world.
